Port Aransas

June saw the start of our summer break (and my mum's second visit), and we decided to take a camper trip down to Port Aransas, for some beach time.  I have never been this far down the Texas coast, and had heard the beaches were nicer than further north on the Gulf Coast.

We stayed one night in San Antonio on the way down.

To get to Mustang Island and drive up to Port Aransas, you must drive through Corpus Christi.  Everywhere you look, there are bodies of water populated with wading fishermen.  I'm pretty sure my brother would love this place.

We stayed at One the Beach RV park.  It's a two minute walk to the beach.

This particular stretch of beach was pretty empty for the most part so there was no competition for prime beach space.

Finley loved chasing the birds.

She also liked running into the water,

and rolling in the sand, and picking up sticks,

and digging holes,

and fetching water,

and taking beach naps.

We all enjoyed the Texas State Aquarium, in Corpus Christi.

Finn, copying the dolphins.

This is Mary's ideal job - zoo educator.

La Playa Mexican Grille gets great reviews.

Not to be missed is sunset at Roberts Pointe Park, where you can watch tens of dolphins as the sun sets.

From Port Aransas, you can take the Red Dragon Pirate Cruise; a two hour cruise on a 70 foot pirate ship with on board entertainment for the kids.

Finley enjoyed mopping the deck.

Even the pre-teen really enjoyed the pirate ship antics.

The rest of June was spent at the lake and around home.

Trying out the Black Friday deal kayaks!

Mary graduated Carver.  On to junior high!
